Every layer, named with intent.
Nomen turns Frame 128 and Rectangle 18 into names people understand, and lets you review every suggestion before your file changes.
See it in action
The real Nomen plugin, running on a sample design. Click Analyze, accept the names, and watch the Layers panel update.
Three steps. Zero busywork.
Finds the mess
Scans your selection for Figma default names like “Frame 12” or “Group 4 copy”. Deliberate names are left alone.
Names by purpose
Reads text, components, structure and siblings, so it names a layer for what it does, not what it looks like.
You have the final say
Review, edit or untick anything, then rename the whole batch in one click, and undo it in one step.
Built for files people actually inherit
A hybrid engine: fast rules for the obvious, Claude for the ambiguous, and you for the final say.
Semantic, not visual
“Checkout Button”, never “Blue Rectangle”. Names describe what each layer does in the interface.
Preview before anything changes
Confident names are pre-ticked. Best guesses wait under Needs review. Nothing is renamed until you say so.
Respects your names
Only Figma defaults are touched. Anything you named on purpose stays exactly as it is.
Claude when it counts
Built-in rules work offline for free. Add your own API key and Claude reads the whole design for context-aware names.
One-step undo
Every batch is a single undo step. Changed your mind about 40 renames? One shortcut brings them all back.
Safe by design
If the AI fails, times out or answers badly, your file stays untouched. Layers deleted or renamed mid-review are skipped and reported, never overwritten.
Many screens at once
Select several frames and Nomen groups the suggestions by screen, so you can clean up a whole flow in one pass.
Running in Figma in two minutes
Nomen runs as a development plugin in the Figma desktop app. No build step, no account needed.
- Open the GitHub repo, then Code → Download ZIP, and unzip it.
- Open the Figma desktop app and any design file.
- Go to Menu → Plugins → Development → Import plugin from manifest… and choose
manifest.json. - Select a frame and run Plugins → Development → Nomen.
- Optional: add an Anthropic API key under the gear icon to switch on Claude.
Clean up your next file in seconds.
Your developers, your future self, and anyone who inherits the file will thank you.
